A Freelancer's Daydream
A few months back, when I would picture myself freelancing, it always involved one thing: waking up whenever I wanted.
I am not a morning person, and since grade-school I've had to wake up early so I could be in Place X at Time Y. The place and time has changed over the years, along with the consequences of being late, but my mornings have never been my own*.
I'm two months into being my own boss, and I've been waking up whenever I want. I have reclaimed my mornings as my own. Something most people can only do on the weekends, I can do any day of the week. I have finally won my lifelong battle against societal expectations, and my spoils are an unlimited amount of sheep to count. I won.
As it turns out, though, sleeping late is kind of lame. For the last month and a half I've been waking up around the same time I did when I had a regular day job. I've finally realized that I can wake up early with no problems because I'm the one deciding when to wake up. It's my own schedule and it's my choice to keep it. Me, me, me.
This realization has betrayed one simple fact: When it comes down to it, I'm still a whiny, spoiled brat that doesn't like to be told what to do.
*And don't tell me I could just wake up earlier. That's still rearranging my mornings to fit someone else's schedule.
